About Norman "Norm" Wheeler

Norman R. Wheeler was elected District Attorney of the Sixth Judicial District serving Grant, Luna and Hidalgo Counties on November 5, 2024. Mr. Wheeler  was  endorsed by the Silver City Police Officers Association (SCPOA);  Grant County Sheriff's Department and related departments of the Public Safety Union Members of the American Federation of the State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 2516; Maurine Laney, Magistrate Judge Grant Division 1, Retired; Sheriff Mike Eby;

Sheriff Billy Merrifield; Kyle Spurgeon, Silver City Police Officer and Emily Dewhurst, Deputy District Attorney. Mr. Wheeler will officially assume office on January 1, 2025.

 

Mr. Wheeler believed that everything that had been an issue with crime in our counties was not a Democrat or Republican problem, rather it was a community problem impacting ALL citizens. More Prosecutions, Less Plea Bargains

One drug trafficker that took a lot of work to get behind bars was looking at 35 years in jail, your current District Attorney pled that to 9 years so he didn't have to go to trial which means this drug trafficker will actually serve a maximum of four and half years "that's not going to happen in Norman Wheeler's office".

Wheeler said, "The chief law enforcement of the district is the district attorney." George Gzoka, currently a defense attorney who attended, added that, "It is not just your opinion but it is statutorily written that the district attorney is the chief law enforcement officer."
